How it works

Overactive sebaceous glands are targeted with the IPL system, reducing their intensity.

The light facilitates the production of new collagen, which improves the texture and elasticity of the skin.

The appearance of brown or red areas can also be reduced, leaving a more consistent skin tone.

This treatment is performed using Lynton technology – a specialist aesthetic technologies manufacturer made up of the largest team of UK-based doctors, scientists & aestheticians. Lynton supply IPL technology to the NHS and some of the UK’s leading cosmetic clinics.

The treatment

A chilled gel is applied to the treatment area to assist in guiding the IPL. The applicator releases short intense pulses of light while being passed over the treatment area.

The process is repeated several times until the affected area and neighbouring areas have been treated. A large area of the skin is treated with each pulse of light, so the duration of the procedure is very short, with a typical treatment taking no longer than 30 minutes.

The treatment may cause some mild discomfort tantamount to the flick of an elastic band. No anaesthetic is required.

Am I suitable for an IPL Acne Treatment?

If you have very dark skin, then the treatment may not be effective. If you are pregnant or taking Roaccutane (or similar) then we would not be able to perform the treatment.

In all cases, it’s recommended that you book a consultation so that we can understand your requirements and asses whether the treatment is suitable for you.

Post-treatment

Immediately after the treatment, the skin may become red and feel warm. We may apply a calming gel to ease the temporary inflation which should dissipate within a couple of hours. In some rare cases, a small blister could form on the skin.
